"I wish my family were perfect like that."
I have to admit that's often what I think when I receive Christmas cards from friends all over the country. I'm usually more aware of my own family's imperfections like the kids who didn't pick up their shoes again, the conflict I had with an extended family member, or the harsh word I said to my wife. Sometimes Christmas only makes those imperfections more painful.
Yet, there's hope for us all as we look at the perfect family of Jesus. At first they actually look like a messy family--a teen mom, a stepfather, a crazy uncle. But even through their imperfections they display a beautiful picture of the perfect family of Jesus. They show us that God works through weakness and rough edges, which means there's hope for all of us.
In our series exploring the gospel of Luke we'll look at Jesus' family and consider what it reveals about God and his plans. So whether you think Christmas is the best of times, or the worst of times, come join us. There's room for all in the imperfectly perfect family of Jesus.
