The Advent season brings us the good news of the coming King and his Kingdom.
In our culture, Christmas is a season of anticipation, of looking forward, of waiting. We look ahead to a special meal or joyful reunion with family or giving the perfect gift or Christmas lights in the neighborhood. As great as this season often is, it's meant to point us to something greater.
The prophet Isaiah spoke of a coming King and his Kingdom at a time when God's people were crushed and oppressed by others. Isaiah pointed them forward to a day when a rescuing King would come and bring a better kingdom.
In our Advent season this year, we'll look at what Isaiah says about this coming king and his kingdom and see how the arrival of Jesus into the world fulfills so many of these promises. And yet, there are promises in Isaiah still unfulfilled. So in our generation, we look back at the coming of King Jesus and forward to his return. We anticipate, we watch, we wait, and we rejoice. We know that the best meal, the best reunion, the most beautiful lights, all point to something even better soon to come.
Join us as we spend the rest of 2019 looking at the words of the prophet Isaiah and rejoicing in the coming king and his kingdom.
