About

Our Story

We began with a conviction: the local church is what we want to give our lives to in our generation.

In the 1970s a group of young believers, reading the Bible with fresh eyes, were captured by the New Testament vision of the local church. They saw that when the amazing grace of God was poured out in the power of the Spirit, it created local churches that felt like family. It meant that the grace of God that changes us also brings us together.

They also saw that God’s plan for spreading this message of grace was also through the local church. As believers lived lives changed by grace they pointed others to that grace. So their heart was to see churches planted across the El Paso region and around the world.

This story continues today.

The Gospel

“Gospel” means “good news.” Everything we do is shaped by the good news of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. Learn more here.

Our City

We love our city. It’s a beautiful, complex, strange, and unique place. Read more about our city and favorite things in the city.

Beliefs

The gospel of Jesus is the most important thing about us, it’s the center of all that we believe, and it shapes everything else we believe (1 Cor 15:3).

Some key beliefs:

  • We’re built on the authority of Scripture

  • We trust and rejoice in God’s sovereignty

  • We live empowered and dependent on the Spirit

  • We live out and rejoice in God’s design for gender and marriage

  • We are submitted to Christ as head of the church and a plurality of local elders

  • We are united in fellowship, mission, and governance with other Sovereign Grace churches

Church Membership

We believe strongly in the value of church membership and desire to see every Christian connected in membership to a local church. Considering whether Cross of Grace is where God is calling you to join in membership? We have regular classes where you’ll be able to learn more about the beliefs of the church, what membership means, and meet people from the church. After working through the material we’ll connect you with a pastor or leader to answer any questions. Check our events page to see if there is a class currently meeting.

Partnerships

Family of Churches

We’ve been part of the Sovereign Grace family of churches since the early 1980s. Together with other Sovereign Grace churches around the world, we partner to plant churches, train pastors, and advance the gospel around the world.

Global Partners

We partner with Rancho 3M, a gospel-centered ministry dedicated to discipling at-risk and orphaned children in the ways of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Members Dathan and Christy Nolt serve on staff at Rancho Los Amigos and with YWAM Juarez.

Local Partners

We partner with the Mustard Seed Cafe which uses free and nutritious meals as a way of demonstrating the love of Jesus.

We also partner with several UTEP and EPCC campus ministries and regularly have staff or leaders involved at Intervarsity, The Baptist Student Mission, and Reformed University Fellowship.
