We need perspective.
In the book of Isaiah God's people can't see more than what's right in front of them, and they can't see that correctly either. Their nation is in decline, enemies are multiplying around them, and the promises of God seem far away. Enter Isaiah. He brings a message of judgment, but not for reasons they expect, and a message of hope, but not from a place they expect. Isaiah's counter-cultural message was meant to give them the perspective they so desperately need, and we have the same need. Again and again the prophet says, "Behold!" or "Look!" and as we come to this book we come ready to look again.
