Answering the Accuser

Answering the Accuser
On Sunday we talked about how when the accuser threatens us we respond with the blood of the Lamb. As we connect our lives to the truths of the gospel we find a profound and unshakeable hope.
Revelation 12:10–11 - And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death. (ESV)
Accusation: “You’re so far from God and God would never accept someone like you.”
Answer: I was far from God but Jesus’ blood brings me near to God forever.
Ephesians 2:13–14 - But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace,..
Accusation: “God hates you. He is going to judge and punish you. You have no excuse or answer to give Him.”
Answer: I have peace with God through Jesus’ blood. It is a full, and lasting, and forever peace. It will never expire or be lost.
Colossians 1:19-20 - For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, [20] and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
Accusation: “You’re a sinner and a failure, scarred and marked by your sin. You could never wash that stain off yourself.”
Answer: It’s true that I have sinned, but I am made right with God, by a free gift of God. I didn’t earn the gift, I cannot earn it, but God freely gave it in Christ.
Romans 3:22b–24 - For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,...
Accusation: “You’re no one to God. He doesn’t care about you.”
Answer: Because of Jesus’ work, we relate to God as sons and daughters. Through the Spirit, we experience the reality of God as our Father even now.
Galatians 4:4–7 - But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.
Accusation: “God isn’t there with you. He has abandoned you.”
Answer: The same God who has saved me through Christ has promised never to leave me.
Hebrews 13:5b–6 - He has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”
Accusation: “Your future is without hope. You have no future.”
Answer: Because of Jesus I have a living hope and my glorious future with God can’t be taken away, or lost, or destroyed.
1 Peter 1:3–5 - Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
Accusation: “God will never give you what you need. He has turned his back on you. He either doesn’t know what you need or doesn’t care about you.”
Answer: God has given me what I need most in Christ and will continue to provide for all I truly need.
Romans 8:32 - He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?
